MORE THAN JUST A MONUMENT
As I’ve traveled through different cities, I’ve often found myself drawn to monuments, buildings, and landmarks that somehow manage to represent the soul of a place. Rome has the Colosseum, Paris has the Eiffel Tower, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything as deeply connected to a city’s identity as the Acropolis of Athens.
Wherever you are in the city, all you have to do is look up and there it is — imposing and silent, overlooking Athens for more than two thousand years.
As the days went by, I started to see it as more than just an archaeological site. It became a point of reference. Almost like that person you trust with your thoughts and fears, knowing they will always be there whenever you need them.
You can lose yourself among the city’s streets, its noise, and its energy, yet the Acropolis remains there, high above you, almost reminding you where you are — and where it all began.
Thinking about everything it has witnessed over the centuries — wars, changes, and entire civilizations rising and falling — while still preserving its identity makes the Acropolis even more special.
It feels as though time has passed all around it, without ever truly managing to take its soul away.
