Edinburgh is one of those cities that doesn’t need to make too much noise.

When you think of Great Britain, London probably comes to mind first. For me, Edinburgh stayed with me for a different reason.

It’s a city I found fascinating from the very beginning.

The stone streets, the dark buildings, the castle that can be seen from different parts of the city, and that often grey sky give it an atmosphere of its own.

It wasn’t a city that won me over straight away.

I think I really started to appreciate it while walking around. Without necessarily having a destination in mind, looking at the buildings, wandering into smaller streets and simply trying to take in the atmosphere of the place.

And that’s exactly what I liked about it.

Edinburgh never felt like a city that was trying too hard to impress you. It’s simply there, with its own character, and the more you look at it, the more you start to appreciate it.

Maybe that’s also why I associate it with something peaceful and a little melancholic.

I can’t really explain what it is, but when I think of Edinburgh, that’s the feeling that comes to mind.

It’s a bit like that beautiful girl who doesn’t need to draw attention to herself. She doesn’t do anything to be noticed, but somehow you still find yourself looking at her.

And maybe that’s exactly what I like about Edinburgh.

It’s not a city you necessarily have to understand straight away.

You just have to spend some time there.

And when you eventually go back home, you realise that something has stayed with you.

For me, it was that feeling that’s difficult to explain.
